Earlier this week, Palmer River Elementary School proudly recognized several students nominated by staff as role models for March’s Monthly Mindset: Perseverance!

Each month, PRES staff nominate students who exemplify the featured mindset. Honorees receive an award and a token for “Inchy,” our book vending machine.

These students shine in the face of challenges. They work hard, give their best effort, and never give up. They are goal-oriented and are not afraid to make mistakes, showing us all what perseverance looks like in action.

We admire their determination and look forward to recognizing even more students next week!

Students in the DES Drama Club are preparing for their exciting debut performance! Approximately 40 students in grades K–4 have been hard at work learning their lines, designing and creating props, and exploring the fundamentals of stage production as they get ready to present their upcoming show, The Paper Bag Princess.

This enriching opportunity was made possible through a generous Feinstein Grant and the dedication of our outstanding staff advisors—Ms. Farley, Ms. Rubano, and Ms. Nunes—who have guided students every step of the way. We are so proud of our young performers and can’t wait to see them shine on stage!

Raider Inclusion Week is winding down, and what a meaningful celebration it has been! This week truly highlighted the power of unity, acceptance, and school pride across our community. Each day provided a unique opportunity for students and staff to come together and show their support: Monday – Walk in Someone Else’s Shoes: Mismatched socks filled the halls as a reminder to embrace different perspectives. Tuesday – Shine Bright for Inclusion: Bright and neon colors lit up the building and our commitment to inclusion. Wednesday – Raider Pride for Inclusion: A sea of blue and white showcased our shared pride and sense of belonging. Thursday – Find a Friend, Be a Friend: Friends dressed alike to celebrate connection, kindness, and community. Tomorrow – Every Voice Matters: Students and staff are encouraged to wear something that represents who they are. In addition, Raiders Connections will host a movie night from 6:00–8:00 PM at BMS featuring Out of My Mind—a powerful story that reinforces the importance of inclusion and understanding.#Inclusion #RaidersConnections #WeAreDR #EIS #DT2030

We are proud to highlight Dighton-Rehoboth alumna Heather Machie-Mello (Class of 2012), whose dedication to learning, leadership, and perseverance began during her time at DR and continues to guide her professional success today.

After graduating from Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School, Heather attended Curry College, where she graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She now works at Blue Cross Blue Shield as a Quality Analyst, where she manages the Provider Quality Incentive Program, helping to improve healthcare quality and provider performance.

While at DR, Heather was actively involved in school life. She was especially passionate about DECA, serving as president during her senior year, and also participated on the freshman basketball team and the varsity cheerleading squad.

Heather credits the teachers and the positive culture at Dighton-Rehoboth with helping to shape her work ethic and drive. She especially remembers:

  • Mr. Pacheco’s Psychology class

  • Mrs. Madsen’s Accounting classes

  • Mrs. Enos’ Trigonometry class

She shares that these teachers challenged her while also supporting her, helping her see that hard work in education leads to motivation and future success.

Heather offers this advice to current students:

"It sounds lame, but take school seriously. Take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way. Good or bad, win or lose, it will teach you so much about yourself and help guide you toward the path you should take. Mistakes are going to happen—your brain isn’t even fully developed until age 25! Embrace them and be kind to yourself. Never forget to give yourself grace. Work hard, stay focused—the world is truly yours."

Heather’s journey reflects the power of involvement, determination, and learning from every experience. We are proud to celebrate her accomplishments and the example she sets for current and future Falcons.

Early College Profile

Students in grade 8 at DMS worked in groups to investigate how the Earth's tilt affects the seasons. In their groups, students explored how the angle of sunlight and length of days change throughout the year as the Earth orbits the Sun. By collaborating and sharing evidence-based explanations, they built a stronger understanding of how Earth’s position and motion in space lead to seasonal patterns.
