Class of 1984
At Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School, I was active in both athletics and academics. I played field hockey from 1982–1984, basketball from 1981–1983, and softball from 1981–1984, serving as softball captain my senior year.
Beyond athletics, I participated in Mr. Lippold’s Acid Rain Research Project, which deepened my interest in science, and I was also a member of the Science Club. These experiences taught me leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and perseverance while helping me build friendships and memories that have stayed with me throughout my life.
I was fortunate to have science teachers who inspired and nurtured my love of science. Their enthusiasm and commitment encouraged me to pursue biology and chemistry, ultimately leading me to a career in science education.
I was also greatly influenced by my softball coach, who emphasized hard work, integrity, and character above winning. The lessons I learned about dedication, teamwork, and doing the right thing on and off the field stayed with me long after my playing days ended and continue to shape the way I teach and mentor students today.
Some of my favorite memories come from my senior year, when many of us had formed strong friendships and were beginning to realize our time together was coming to an end. I especially remember the end-of-season softball celebrations at Mr. and Mrs. Cordeiro’s home, along with ski trips with the Youth Group and traditions like Spirit Week and Senior Supper. What stands out most are the friendships, shared experiences, and sense of community that made those moments so meaningful.
After graduating from DRRHS, I attended Rhode Island College, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. Although I had hoped to pursue a career in the sciences, job opportunities in the field were limited at the time, so I returned to school at Southeastern Massachusetts University (now UMass Dartmouth) to earn my teaching certification.
Throughout college and beyond, I worked as a waitress and bartender to help finance my education. After graduating, I became a single parent and took on a variety of roles to support my family, including waitress, medical biller, real estate salesperson, and part-time teacher at a Catholic K–8 school.
In 1995, I returned to Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School as a science teacher. Along the way, I earned a master’s degree in Special Education from Providence College. I have remained at DRRHS ever since, and it has been incredibly rewarding to give back to the school community that helped shape my future.
I am currently in my 31st year of teaching science at Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School, with one more year before retirement. Teaching has been a deeply fulfilling profession, and I am grateful for the opportunity to work with so many students over the years.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time on my small farm, especially during the summer months. Most importantly, I cherish time with my two grandsons, who bring tremendous joy to my life.
One accomplishment I am especially proud of is creating a memorial garden in honor of my mother, who passed away recently. Family and friends have shared flowers and perennial plants, each carrying special meaning and memories. Bringing those contributions together into one garden has been both a labor of love and a meaningful way to celebrate my mother’s life. I hope it will remain a lasting reminder of her and of the love and support that surrounded our family during a difficult time.
My experience at DRRHS provided a strong educational foundation that prepared me well for college and my career. When I attended Rhode Island College, I quickly realized how fortunate I was to have been exposed to a rigorous, well-rounded curriculum. Courses such as chemistry, foreign language, writing, and other college-preparatory classes gave me the skills and confidence I needed to succeed.
DRRHS taught me how to think critically, communicate effectively, and manage the demands of higher education. Looking back, I deeply appreciate the quality of education I received and the role it played in shaping both my academic and professional success.
My advice to current DR students is to take full advantage of the educational opportunities available to you, especially young women. Get involved in your school community through clubs, athletics, music, student government, or other activities, and work hard to challenge yourself. The effort you invest in your education and personal growth today will pay dividends for years to come.

Mrs. Monte, Mr. K, and Nurse Elizabeth all took one for the team and got SLIMED!
Now, you might be wondering, "Why in the world did that happen?" Well, our incredible PRES students and families absolutely crushed our Boosterthon Fun Run fundraiser, raising over $34,000 to support our school!
When our students rise to the challenge, so do our staff—even if it means getting covered in slime!
A huge THANK YOU to our amazing families, students, volunteers, and PTSA for making this year's Boosterthon such an incredible success. Your generosity and enthusiasm will make a lasting impact on our school.
We'd say it was worth it... although Mrs. Monte, Mr. K, and Nurse Elizabeth may still be finding slime in their hair!
Have a great summer!

Last Thursday, the 8th grade students at DMS enjoyed dining and dancing the night away at our annual Luau Celebration. #WeAreDR, #EIS, #DT2030

These items were carefully selected to encourage students and families to stay active, creative, and engaged during the summer break. Opportunities for outdoor play, physical activity, and creative expression support the district's Strategic Plan goals of fostering student well-being, building positive experiences beyond the classroom, and promoting healthy lifestyles. We hope these summer bags inspire our students to get outside, stay active, make memories with family and friends, and return to school in the fall refreshed and ready to learn.
We are grateful to our staff, community partners, and especially Tom and Jimmy's for helping make this initiative possible. We wish all of our DES Eagles a safe, healthy, and active summer! #WeAreDR #DT2030 #EIS 🦅☀️🏖️🍦

On Thursday night at Palmer River Elementary School, our fourth graders proved they are ready for the next chapter as they took on Escape Elementary School, PRES's very own escape room experience!
Students worked together to solve challenges, crack clues, and complete their mission, demonstrating incredible teamwork, collaboration, problem solving, and perseverance along the way. It was wonderful to see our students supporting one another and having so much fun! A special thank you to our PTSA for providing dinner and treats for everyone and to our dedicated fourth grade teachers for planning such creative and engaging challenges that made the evening so memorable.
As we prepare to send this amazing group of students on to Beckwith Middle School, we couldn't be prouder of all they have accomplished. Their kindness, determination, leadership, and positive spirit have made a lasting impact on our school community. We will miss them dearly, but we know they are destined for bright futures and great things ahead.
Congratulations, Fourth Grade! We can't wait to see all that you accomplish. 💚💛

Last Friday, Dighton Elementary School held its annual Fun Run, and what an incredible day it was! Students enjoyed a day filled with fun, excitement, and plenty of water activities to help keep everyone cool. One of the highlights of the event was when Mrs. Lima was dunked by the top fundraising student from each grade level, much to the delight of the crowd. Students also celebrated their hard work with lollipops and lots of smiles. The fun isn't over yet—this week, Mr. Girouard will be taped to the wall and challenged to stay there overnight as another exciting reward for our students!
A huge thank you goes out to our amazing PTO for organizing this event and to Booster for helping make it another memorable experience for our school community. Most importantly, thank you to every family, friend, and community member who donated and supported our students. Because of your generosity, we raised $35,000 that will be used to support future student experiences, enrichment opportunities, and field trips.
This event is a wonderful example of our district's DRiving Toward 2030 strategic plan in action. Through strong partnerships between families, staff, students, and the community, we are creating meaningful opportunities that enhance student engagement, build school pride, and foster a sense of belonging. The Fun Run not only promotes health and wellness but also demonstrates the power of collaboration and community investment in providing memorable learning experiences for all students.
Thank you for helping make Dighton Elementary a place where students can learn, grow, and create lasting memories together. #WeAreDR #EIS #DT2030 🦅💚💛

A heartfelt thank you also goes to Mrs. Maguy for stepping up to coordinate this tremendous event and to the many staff members who arrived early, worked behind the scenes, and gave their time and energy to set up games, stations, and activities.
Field Day is truly a community effort, and we are so thankful for everyone who helped create such a memorable experience for our students. Your kindness, generosity, and dedication are what make Palmer River Elementary such a special place to learn, grow, and belong.

Last Thursday, our Grade 4 students from Dighton Elementary School enjoyed their annual end of the year class trip to historic Fenway Park. The trip coincided with STEM Day, giving students the opportunity to participate in a variety of hands-on learning experiences throughout the ballpark. From exploring space science and robotics to building with LEGO® materials and engaging in interactive engineering activities, students experienced STEM learning in exciting and meaningful ways.
After the STEM activities, students stayed to watch the Red Sox game. While the Red Sox came up short on the scoreboard, the experience was a memorable one for all who attended. The day provided students with opportunities to learn, collaborate, problem-solve, and explore potential future career pathways in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
This experience directly supports the Driving Towards 2030 Strategic Plan by advancing Student Success and Achievement through engaging, real-world learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. It also aligns with Student and Staff Well-Being and Belonging by creating positive shared experiences that build school community and foster student engagement. Through hands-on STEM exploration, students were encouraged to think critically, collaborate with peers, and connect classroom learning to authentic experiences.
A special thank you to everyone who helped make this annual tradition possible. It was truly a home run of a day for our Grade 4 students! ⚾💚💛 #WeAreDR #EIS #DT2030
