🎉🦅 We are so proud of our first two “Caught Doing Good” students! 🦅🎉

These amazing students were recognized for showing kindness, helping others, and making positive choices. They earned their 💚 We Are DR bracelets and a 📚 token for the book vending machine — what a great way to celebrate doing the right thing!

Way to go, Eagles! Keep spreading kindness and positivity! 💚✨

Superintendent Runey was recently interviewed by WJAR/Turn to 10 as part of a broader conversation on recent studies showing statewide enrollment declines. In the interview, he shares how Dighton-Rehoboth is responding proactively by reengaging families and expanding opportunities for students through academics, Early College classes, CTE pathways, and strong arts and athletic programs. #WeAreDR #DT2030 #EIS 🎥 Watch the interview: https://youtu.be/M70aNNEN9Iw

Happy Holidays

I graduated from Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School in 1965 and went on to Northeastern University, earning a B.A. in Liberal Arts as a math major while playing four years on the men’s basketball team. In 1970, I married my high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Hopkins, and soon after began my career in education. I taught mathematics and coached freshmen basketball at Somerset High School from 1970 to 1973.

In 1973, Superintendent Joseph C. Harrington hired me to return to DRRHS as a math teacher and boys’ basketball coach. I spent the next 24 years on the sidelines, and in 1990, I was honored to serve as President of the Massachusetts Basketball Coaches’ Association. I also completed my Master of Education in School Administration from Bridgewater State University in 1984 and served as Mathematics Department Head from 1991 to 1995.

From 1997 to 2002, I served as Assistant Principal at DRRHS before accepting the position of Athletic Director at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, where I worked until my retirement in 2006. Along the way, I also served in the United States Army Reserves from 1970 to 1976.

Liz and I raised two children who make us incredibly proud: Erika (DRRHS 1995, Duke University 1999) and Steven (DRRHS 2002, Western New England University 2006). Our greatest joy now comes from our four grandchildren—Benjamin, Emerson, Matthew, and Annie—who fill our lives with energy and laughter.

In retirement, I enjoy golf, fishing, and staying connected to the community. In 2025, I was proud to return once more to DRRHS as a member of the branding committee for the high school’s new visual identity.

Looking back, I am grateful for a career centered on education, athletics, and service—and for the family and community that have supported me throughout the journey.

Today, all students from PreK through Grade 4 were treated to a special surprise during lunch. For Kindergarten lunch, Santa himself made a special appearance, spreading holiday cheer. Mrs. Lima made sure the magic continued by ensuring that all remaining lunches also received a North Pole cookie, so every student and staff member could enjoy a sweet holiday treat. 🍪

Today, kindergarten students from Mrs. Campbell’s and Ms. Cornell’s classes took part in a wonderful community outreach trip! They delivered Christmas cards and decorations, listened to a festive holiday story, and sang a few Christmas songs to spread some cheer at The Dighton Council on Aging. It was a successful and heartwarming visit! 🎄
