School Delays & Cancellations

SCHOOL DELAYS AND CANCELLATIONS

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Although school delays and cancellations can happen at any time for emergencies during the school year, it is this time of year when school delays and cancellations are inevitable. Decisions are based upon the time and amount of snowfall, temperature/ wind chill factors, building status (electricity or heat), icing, and road conditions. Several contacts may be used to collect information in the decision-making process including Dighton and Rehoboth Police Departments, Dighton and Rehoboth Highway Departments, our transportation company, and neighboring school districts. Local weather forecasts and the National Weather Service information are used to make decisions as well. While using weather predictions is not always reliable, it is sometimes unavoidable to ensure that students are safe during travel times to and from school.

To check the status of any school delay or cancellation, please refer to any of the Local cable channels 15 (Rehoboth) and 9 (Dighton), channels 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 12, Fox 25 WPRO (AM 630), WHJJ (AM 920), WSAR (AM 1480), WBZ (AM 1030), PRO FM (FM 920), WSNE (FM 93.3), WHJY (FM 94.1), LITE ROCK 105 (FM 105)

We will send out calls for cancellations and delays through , our  telephone contact system. If necessary, the call will be made in the morning between 5:00 - 5:30 AM. A call may be made the evening before, if that determination can be made. However, we will still use all media outlets listed

Sometimes, if conditions worsen while students are in route to school, we are unable to cancel because parents have left for work. Dismissing students early once school is in session is a safety concern. However, if there is no alternative, this is always a possibility. In that instance, we will notify parents via the TV and radio stations that will take this information during the day, www.drregional.org, parent e-mail lists.  We understand the major impact this has on families' schedules, will do our best to make timely descisions with safety in mind. Also, please discourage teenagers from driving in bad conditions, and offer them alternatives.
