DRESS CODE

Now that the warm weather has arrived, it is necessary to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed each day. Please take the time with your child to review what is considered appropriate dress for school in the dress code policy located on page 8 in the student agenda books.

If a staff member feels that a student’s clothing is inappropriate, they will be referred to the office. Students will either change their clothing or a parent/guardian will be asked to come and get them.

 MATH LAB

Dighton Middle School has recently incorporated a Math Lab. This is a wonderful opportunity for students identified with math difficulties to receive additional enrichment in Mathematics. Over the next few days, students who have been identified with weaknesses in math from MCAS data or from teacher recommendations will be familiarized with the unique stations that are available in the math lab to help students work through their identified math weakness.

The math lab incorporates a math software station for skill testing, math manipulative station, open response station to address student responses, Study Island software for tracking of student skill mastery and a small group station for the instructor to provide more individualized instruction to the group. Students will rotate through the stations based on their identified math difficulties and once they have mastered their weaknesses will be removed from the math lab.

Students will be removed from one of the three gym classes they have each week or from directed study to receive this additional support. Some students may be meeting once or twice per week for this additional support.

Please feel free to contact the school with any questions or concerns you may have.

FLU AND SCHOOL ATTENDANCE!

School Age Children are at High Risk for Getting and Spreading the Flu!

The Department of Public Health (DPH) has given schools across Massachusetts the following rules to help control the spread of flu this winter:

*   All students and staff with a fever over 100 degree should not be in school, and should be fever-free for 24 hours WITHOUT using fever-reducing medication AND feeling much better before returning to school.

*   Any person with a fever over 100.4 degrees  AND a cough OR a sore throat is considered to have a flu-like illness and should expect to stay home for about 4 days before being well enough to return to the school.

*   A doctor's note is not a guarantee that the school nurse can allow your child back into school,  and a doctor's note may be required if the absent is for 5 or more consecutive days.

*   Please consult with the nurse if there is a need for extended absence.

*   Please call the Health Room if you have questions about when your child should come to school.

*   Speak to your Health Care Provider about seasonal flu and H1N1 vaccines.

Teach your family to cover coughs and sneezes with their elbows, wash their hands frequently throughout the day, and to isolate themselves from others if they are not feeling well.

If your child is going to be absent, please call the school that morning. Please be aware that in order for ANY absences to be marked "excused" on your child's school record, a doctor's note must be provided.  This is a District-wide policy.  Please refer to the parent handbook to review current absentee policies.
