Guidelines for parents from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) concerning the flu
Guidance for Parents:
Teach family and children these steps to prevent the transmission of and protect you from infections such as influenza:
-Cover your coughs and sneezes into a tissue or the inside of you elbow, not into your hands
-Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
-Wash hands frequently, especially after coughing or sneezing
-Avoid holding, hugging, kissing and shaking hands with anyone who has a cold or the flu
-If your child is sick, especially with a fever - do not send your child to school
-If families have recently traveled to the locations with active cases and have flu-like symptoms with a fever they
should keep their children home and notify their doctor.
Symptoms of the Flu:
-Fever
-Cough
-Sore throat
-Body aches, headaches, chills and fatigue
-Sometimes the symptoms include nausea and diarrhea
Please be aware that the school nurses will be following the guidelines provided by the Massachusetts Department of Health regarding any exclusions as needed from school.
